Tom Casey
There's a strangely resonant message tucked inside Tom Casey's latest single, "Solo." While the soft-spoken indie-pop singer may be crooning over the universal woes of doubt and isolation, he still offers some kind of resolute wisdom, softly singing "All your doubts don't mean much once you figure out / The life you lead won't ever grow, if you go it alone." It's a universal sentiment, chiseled out into the same thoughtful lyrics that have flowed through much of Casey's songwriting. The indie singer, who only started releasing EP's last year, has been focused on refining his music to a more ambitious sound. "Solo" pushes Casey's arresting vocal sound right up front, soft spoken and lush in harmonies, as the tune kicks into gear with a strange family of instruments: vintage drum machines, an old church organ, mellotron samples, and vintage electric guitars. It's perhaps ironic, as this quaint accompaniment chugs along next to lyrics that speak well to the woes of a modern, over-connected world. "Solo" marks yet again another unique entry from the Asbury Park- based singer/producer. Several more singles are expected to be released this summer.
