"I remember thinking this is not how people live." - Snakepiss That lone statement synopsizes Toil, Snakepiss's new EP on Chambray. Recorded over the winter of 2013, the record deals with themes of struggle and acceptance – ultimately not allowing your limitations control you. A culmination of efforts by Snakepiss and Chambray, Toil is about: the recycling of culture; working long hours for little pay; using barely-functioning, secondhand equipment; and creating what you can with diminishing resources. The sound of Toil –shuffling rhythms, distorted samples, and digital drum machines – is equally indebted to J Dilla and Angelo Badalamenti. Toil is available on vinyl (12") and digital via Chambray (CHAM 004). Snakepiss is a SW Detroit, MI-based producer. His songs, constructed at night on bargain bin headphones, are breeding grounds for found noise, creeping beats and imaginary horror soundtracks, reflecting the neglected environment of a working class city. "Toil" (song) featured on Actress' DJ-Kicks compilation. Styles: Experimental Hip Hop, Electronic, Dark Ambient For Fans Of: Burial, Raime, J DIlla, Clams Casino
