Gay er the New StraightSilvurdrongur
SILVURDRONGUR (FO)
SILVURDRONGUR (Silverkid) is a Faroese multi-award-winning musician, writer,
and filmmaker who mixes dark, nordic hiphop and poetry with a perverse popvibe.
The beats are produced and composed by the omnipresent mastermusician
Per I. Hojgaard Petersen with assistance from the tantalizing bass of Karl Andrias
Stora. The group won BEST NEW NAME at the Faroese Music Awards 2018 and
have performed a multitude of special concerts - from the old church in
Torshavn, twice at the G! Festival in Gotu and all across the Faroe Islands to
Denmark, Greenland, Finland and Sweden - and always manage to hypnotize
audience members with strange feelings of doom, wonder, and extreme presence
on stage.
The debut album SILVURPLATA (Silveralbum) was released in 2018 as part of a
cross-art piece that also included multi-award winning short film 111 GOÐIR
DAGAR (111 Good Days) which is being made into a feature film in the summer
of 2019, and the poetry collection SILVURBOK (Silverbook) which won the EBBA
award to young, Faroese writers that have exhibited special abilities. The lyrics
of Silvurdrongur range from the absurd to the heartfelt and deal with everyday
life and existential questions of the modern age, often portraying the aliens and
outcasts of society to which the artist himself belongs.
GAY ER THE NEW STRAIGHT is a new single from Silvurdrongur that is a kind of
satirical depiction of modern society and a self-ironical portrayal of the
genderfluid writer who soaks up the movements of modernity and releases them
like a sponge into the song. Despite the satire and irony, the song is also a sincere
and heartfelt testimony of love and acceptance in a time where political
disagreements are ripping into the fabrics of society. It is a sweet, catchy pop
song with fun details that are meant to simultaneously offend not a soul and
every living being in one swift stroke of the pen.
