Love LessonsShamans of Sound, Jess Lake
At the beginning of Summer in 2018 Shamans Of Sound dropped their debut single and played a series of great concerts and festivals, while finding time to hit the studio and work on some new music. The second single from Shamans of Sound has arrived, and this time they are offering Love Lessons featuring Jess Lake on vocals. The Shamans bandmembers met through their mutual love of reggae music, and that includes the entire culture and history of the broad genre. One way the band coalesced was by playing together some of their favorite riddims of the past few decades, Jamaican classics which shaped their shared identity. For the second single Shamans Of Sound have reintrepreted the classic Drum Song Riddim by Sly & Robbie for their own new tune Love Lessons. Joining Shamans Of Sound on this track is Washington, DC based vocalist Jess Lake, who can be heard often live in concert with acts like The U-Liners, DC Mystery Cats and John Kadlecik Band. You can hear Jess bring all of that experience to the track as her melodies float right over the relentless bass groove. Skanking guitars, seriously smooth drums and steady keys combine to create a crisp pocket groove, everything is irie inside. Come along for the ride, before you reach the other side… In this case the other side is the second half of the track, and as the vocals drop out the band gets to jam out the middle. A dubby, spaced out breakdown takes you into the outer realms for a moment, and then Jess reaches back through the fog with her soulful hook. Shamans Of Sound have crafted a modern one drop classic that pays homage to the roots and riddims of reggae music.
