AVOTRE label boss and underground favourite Sante drops in on Sola Nauts with an emphatic three-track release showcasing a wealth of subterranean sustenance - I'll Try. I knew I was going to send something to the boys after we hung out in Mexico City" - Sante The release opens with 'I'll Try', an upbeat combination of thumping kicks, swinging sub-bass, rhythmic fills, crisp hat grooves and much more. Its melodic key stabs modulate through filters to bring even more movement to a wave of analogue roughness. This one has basement jam written all over it! Next out, 'Room 2' comes in hot with bouncing bravado in the form of more heavy drum work and a weighty low-end. Subtle bells chime away as it continues to stir the pot of jackin' momentum. The track has some killer breakout sections with hammering drops to match. Completing the release, 'Climax' takes you deeper with driving drums, pulsating synths and a huge sub. Its particularly mesmerising construction of percussive strikes draws you into a daze before reminding you you're knees deep in a vigorous late-night fist-pumper. Sante, hailing from Berlin, is part of a new school of artists championing musicality, skillfulness and creativity over mindless loops and endless repetition. His productions, like those on his record label AVOTRE, ooze character, charisma & humour, feelings so often overlooked in the realms of house music. Few producers can claim such a breadth of imprints to be associated with at any one time. When you ask Sante to describe his musical style, he says he doesn't really know how to - which goes some way to explaining his widespread appeal.
