No Love Where There Is PowerMikel Andonegi
Mikel Andonegi was born in 1964 in San Sebastian, Spain. He started learning music at 6 and piano at 8 . His first original compositions as a teenager were on piano and reflected a strong minimalist influence , especially American composer Steve Reich's . After meeting Kaki Arkarazo , leader of the seminal Basque group M'ak , he released a proper demo tape with his help . Mikel was then 20 years old .The project was called Sarako Denbora, a unique blend of New Wave and Jazz. After finishing his studies in History at a local university, in 1989 he decided to move to New York City to pursue his musical career .There he was a member of several groups that were part of the local scene , amongst them Lovehead , led by singer Justice Dilla and Poetic Babies, with whom he released a cd with Poetic Records in 1997. He pursued his interest in Jazz , having his short lived quartet with notable musicians Horacio el negro Hernandez and Gorka Benitez. Having to make ends meet he taught Spanish for a number of years , he withdrew from live performing in the late 90's and dedicated his musical interest to recording songs and improving his piano technique. After moving to London in 2005 he connected with British musicians Dan Stern and Laurie Lowe , releasing a Jazz cd in 2007 under the name Four Brothers and a Ghost , with the notable participation of trumpet player Tom Arthurs . This was the first of three cds released with the Spanish record company, Errabal, the other two being a Jazz acoustic trio album with notable drummer Laurie Lowe and a highly personal Techno Jazz album. After moving to Singapore in 2012 , he started collaborating with producer, musician and engineer Eric Chiryoku with whom he recorded about 25 songs , ranging from Hiphop to modern Jazz to R&B. Mikel has officially release an album in 2019 under the record label Creatune.
