When Morning ComesGraham Heath
When Morning Comes talks out of the perspective of an indecisive ambivert in the context of a night out. He's overly sensitive of his surroundings but meaningless interactions around him just bounce off, as if he's in his own bubble. At the same time he doesn't even try to include himself. This first verse is accompanied by a simple bassline and a punchy rock drum beat. Together with distant sounding vocals the sound aesthetic is moody and dark, reflecting uncertainty. The refrain contrasts strongly with the verses, both in lyrical and instrumental content. The protagonist needs a wish, a desire, a sort of impetus to hold on to before the next morning, since he's been endlessly chasing but constantly failing. Combined with a soulful motown bassline this part creates a strong sense of nostalgic melancholia with an uplifting spirit driven by the percussion, sending the listener on rollercoaster ride of emotions.
